Signal Jumper Pin Orientation: For the S1, S2, S3, and SEN jumper headers, the upper pin is connected to the corresponding SUNMOD module signal, while the lower pin is connected to GND. When connecting an external signal, remove the jumper and connect the signal to the upper (module-side) pin.
For the UART jumpers, the upper pins are connected to the SUNMOD module TX/RX signals, while the lower pins connect to the onboard USB-to-UART interface. Remove the UART jumpers when connecting an external host directly to the module-side TX/RX pins.
Connect the EVK over USB-C to configure, monitor, and control the SUNMOD module directly from your browser.
Connect your own host system to the EVK and accelerate firmware integration using the SUNMOD SDK and examples.

* The EVK supports up to 30 V and 5 A; however, these ratings do not represent the limits of the installed SUNMOD module. The EVK is designed to support multiple SUNMOD modules with different ratings. Always refer to the datasheet and specifications of the installed module for its applicable voltage, current, and power limits.
** PANEL−, BAT−, and LOAD− are electrically common and connected to GND on the evaluation board.

FAQ
SUNMOD03PU is rated for 3 A, while SUNMOD-EVK is rated for up to 5 A. Which rating should I follow?
The ratings of the installed SUNMOD module always govern the allowable operating conditions. SUNMOD-EVK power paths are designed to support up to 30 V / 5 A so the same EVK can support SUNMOD modules with different ratings. When using SUNMOD03PU, always operate within the voltage, current, and power limits specified in the SUNMOD03PU datasheet. This distinction is also stated in the EVK datasheet.
Do I need to install a USB driver?
Usually not. The onboard CP2102C USB-to-UART interface is supported by common modern operating systems. On most current Windows 11, macOS, and Linux systems, the required driver is already available or installed automatically.
If the device is not recognized on Windows, check Windows Update or install the appropriate CP210x driver.
Can I use the SUNMOD SDK through the EVK’s USB-C connection?
Yes. The SDK can communicate with a SUNMOD module through the EVK’s onboard USB-to-UART interface, making it possible to develop and test host-side communication without building a custom interface board.
You can also disconnect the onboard USB-to-UART interface and connect your own host directly to the EVK's module side TX/RX pins. The latter configuration is explicitly supported by the EVK jumper arrangement.
Does SUNMOD-EVK provide additional electrical protection?
No. The EVK is primarily an evaluation and interconnection platform. Power-path protection is provided by the installed SUNMOD module according to that module’s specifications.
Therefore, the EVK’s 30 V / 5 A capability should not be interpreted as additional protection or as an extension of the installed module’s electrical ratings.
Is a USB-C cable included with SUNMOD-EVK?
No. A USB-C cable is not included. USB-C cables are already widely available, so we avoid including an unnecessary cable with every EVK, reducing packaging, cost, and electronic waste.
What USB-C cable should I use?
A standard USB-C data cable up to 1 m is recommended. Because USB-C is used for communication with the onboard USB-to-UART interface, make sure the cable supports data communication and is not a charge-only cable.
Was FCC testing performed with a SUNMOD module installed and operating?
Yes. The FCC Part 15B testing was performed with the EVK and SUNMOD03PU operating together.
Are the required jumpers included with the EVK?
Yes. The jumpers required for normal operation of the evaluation board are installed on the board when shipped.
How do I measure panel, battery, or load current?
Remove the corresponding PANEL, BATTERY, or LOAD high-current jumper to open the power path, then connect an ammeter or suitable current-measurement instrument across the jumper terminals.
For low-current or quiescent-current measurements, disable the onboard LEDs using the LED_ENABLE jumper so their current consumption does not affect the measurement. The CP2102C is powered separately from USB-C and does not contribute to current measured through these power paths.
After measurement, reinstall the high-current jumper. Do not substitute one of the smaller signal jumpers; the power-path jumpers are intended for the higher current carried by these connections.
Can I use my own MCU, Raspberry Pi, or other host instead of USB-C?
Yes. Remove the UART jumpers to disconnect the onboard USB-to-UART interface, then connect your host directly to the module-side TX/RX pins (the upper pins of the UART jumper headers, on the side closest to the SUNMOD module).
This supports development with MCUs, SBCs, and other host systems without requiring a separate SUNMOD interface board.
Can I connect external signals to S1, S2, S3, and SEN?
Yes. External signals should be connected to the module-side pins (upper pins) of the S1, S2, S3, and SEN jumper headers.
Remove the corresponding jumper before connecting an external signal. The lower pin is connected to GND, while the upper pin connects to the corresponding SUNMOD module signal.
Does SUNMOD-EVK include the base plate and rubber feet?
Yes. SUNMOD-EVK is supplied with a 3 mm SUS304 stainless steel base plate and rubber feet, providing additional weight, stability, and clearance for convenient bench use.
